Tournament Introduction
The ALTTPR Main Tournament is coming back once again for 2026, and with it comes some changes we hope everyone will like. Please read on for all the details, and then join us in the MT Discord's General channel with any questions/comments/feedback. All we ask is that you keep it respectful and productive.
We also have a Google Doc with even more information, which you are expected to review and adhere to all rules and policies listed. The information below is meant to be a "brief" overview.
Hyrule Town Hall
New this year, we have partnered with Hyrule Town Hall and The Mayor. Anyone who has played in recent tournaments such as Crosskeys or Cabookey will be familiar with how that works. HTH will handling the automation for a majority of the tournament: from the creation of scheduling threads to scheduling races, opening RT rooms, rolling seeds, and reporting match results. In Discord, HTH will be represented by The Mayor.
Registration
Registration will be handled through HTH (click the Enter tab along the top or just click here). While you are not required to register prior to participating in qualifiers, you must be registered within 48 hours of the close of the Qualifier phase*. Anyone who has not registered by 11:59 PM EST on October 20th, or has not completed the required 3 qualifiers (must start your last qualifier no later than 11:59 PM EST on October 18th) will be removed from the standings and have their scores voided.
As part of the registration process, you will be asked to select from several optional settings which could be added to the 3 base modes (this will be explained in detail below). Please do not feel pressured to select any settings you do not like. There's nothing wrong with playing the modes as-is!
*Due to limitation with how HTH async system works, you do need to register and sign up for the tournament prior to being able to run async qualifiers
Tournament Format
The tournament will take place in three phases: Qualifiers, Groups, Brackets
- Qualifiers run from September 28, 2026 until October 18, 2026 (the last chance to begin an async qualifier is 11:59 PM EST on the 18th)
- We are aiming for a minimum of 64 players in the tournament, with anyone not qualifying becoming eligible to participate in the 2026 Challenge Cup. Depending on the total number of eligible players, we may expand the pool to more than 64, but this will not be known for sure until the end of the Qualifier phase.
- Groups run from November 2, 2026 until November 22, 2026
- Brackets run from November 23, 2026 until January 10, 2027

- Entry to the qualifier is closed 10 minutes prior to the race, when the seed is rolled. No entries permitted once the seed is rolled. Absolutely no exceptions will be given, regardless of the reason for joining late.
- Everyone may participate in the live races, even if you will not be playing in the tournament. Ineligible race participants will be determined at the time of seed generation, and anyone deemed ineligible will not be included in post-race score calculations.
- If you participate in a live race as your one allowed re-attempt, but have already completed an async for that mode, you must first declare your reattempt with The Mayor, otherwise your score will not count.
- You cannot have an active async while running a live race. Ensure to finish/forfeit the async first, or yout score will not count.
- If you leave the race room BEFORE the race starts, you will not be charged a forfeit. You must wait until the race starts before you can attempt an async.
- If you are still in the race after the race starts, you are locked into the race and your result will stand. Once you finish or forfeit, you must wait until the entire race is over for all participants before you can play another async.
Async Qualifier Process
Async qualifiers will be handled by The Mayor in the Tournament 2026 section on our Discord server. Overall it is very similar to prior years with SahaBot. You will request an async from The Mayor, and once complete, upload the VOD unlisted to YouTube. Once tournament volunteers have verified your VOD, the score will be visible*.
*Hopefully. Since this async pool is a brand new feature for HTH, and we need to ensure enough people run the various seeds (exact number of seed will not be public), we may not be able to display a score immediately, but we hope that this will be possible.
Tournament Rules
- We will be using the racing rules as set out by The ALTTPR Racing Community (TARC), with a few important distinctions. Rules that are part of TARC Racing Rules but not listed in this section are still relevant and will be enforced.
- Any glitches with rulings that are temporary and have not had a final decision made will be disallowed in the tournament. Any ruling made by TARC will go into effect for the tournament 24 hours after it is posted, to allow players in the tournament time to adjust.
- If you do not see something specific listed as permitted (or not explicitly banned), DO NOT ASSUME it is allowed! Always ask an admin/moderator for clarification!
- Players are expected to read, understand, and adhere to the Code of Conduct
- The Code of Conduct and punishments for violating it listed in the tournament document
- Admins reserve the right to apply enforce punishments from the Code of Conduct for violations not listed, should the need arise (we really hope it will not)
- All group and bracket races must be streamed on Twitch and you should archive all VODs until the end of the tournament.
- This will require highlighting your VOD if you do not have 60 days VOD storage as a Twitch Partner or Turbo subscriber.
- Be sure to verify Twitch has not turned off your VOD saves due to copyrighted audio being detected.
- No delay is required in any stage of the tournament
- You can choose to run a delay in any races that are not restreamed, however you MUST declare this to your opponent prior to starting. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit.
- By signing up for the Main Tournament, you are agreeing to being restreamed on SpeedGaming and/or ALTTPRandomizer, with some additional notes below
- You may request to not be restreamed in a live qualifier race
- You may request to not be restreamed in the Groups stage (subject to approval by the Admin/Leaders)
- Once we begin Brackets stage, you may no longer opt-out of restreaming
- You must continue streaming until the final credits (collection rate and in-game time).
- Players can utilize faster methods of fast forward supported by emulators, but must run at normal speed from the collection stats section of the credits until the end
- Select/X to fast forward on emulator or console is fine and does not need to be stopped at anytime since it is not fast enough to obscure required information
Additional Tournament Rules/General Information:
- Players are expected to respond promptly to Admin/Moderator requests
- Randomizer seeds will be downloaded through an online patcher site and you are not permitted to customize the seed in any manner not supported by the patcher site
- Custom sprites must stream appropriate. Using an offensive sprite will result in removal from the tournament. If in doubt, ask an admin first.
- If for any reason you were unable to .done correctly during your race, and it will have a meaningful impact on your result, please let an admin know and we will re-time your run.
- During qualifiers the difference needs to be above 15 seconds for us to re-time your race. This is so we don't have large volumes of people who hit the done button slightly late requesting re-times.
- Failure to appear for your scheduled race, without any notice to your opponent and the admin team, will result in a forfeiture of the race. There will be no rematches allowed by default. While your opponent may offer a rematch, they are under no obligation to do so.
- It is highly recommended that you keep a local recording of your races. If your stream goes down during a race you may be asked to provide proof of your finish time. Local recordings of your entire stream are preferred to just raw game feed and are sufficient to determine the result of a race.
- If you are having internet issues leading up to the race please do not continue and race anyway. Instead please let an admin know and reschedule. If you have internet or technical issues (for a moderate/significant period of time) and cannot provide a local recording then you will be forfeited from that match.
- There will be no rematches allowed by default. While your opponent may offer a rematch, they are under no obligation to do so.
- Players who drop will be considered to have lost all subsequent matches.
- Records of previous matches will remain unchanged
- Players are expected to play within the spirit of ALTTPR racing. Attempts to "game" the system will not be tolerated and will result in removal from the tournament.
Additional Rules for Runners in Restreamed Races ONLY
- Qualifiers Only: Runners selected for restream will be contacted by a tournament admin approximately 20 minutes prior to start
- Only MSU-1 packs from this list are approved for use on SpeedGaming and ALTTPRandomizer channels. Please ensure to inform the setup helper/restreamer which pack you are using prior to start. If you know an MSU pack is safe from both Twitch mutes and YouTube copyright claims but is not on the list, please reach out to a moderator.
- Palette shuffle is permitted for use during restreamed races.
- SFX Shuffle is NOT permitted during restreamed races.
- SpeedGaming restreams only: In order to ensure optimal performance and all currently active SpeedGaming channels, please be mindful of your resolution and bitrate, and limit your Twitch stream to 720p/4000 bitrate. However, if you are streaming with Twitch Enhanced Broadcast and/or are a Twitch Partner, you may disregard this due to having lower bitrate transcodes available automatically.
